Imagine I have a task, with a group of subtasks underneath, and each of those subtasks contains sub-subtasks. In the "TaskName" column, I want to display it like this:

Task (3)
[tab] +Subtask 1
[tab] +Subtask 2
[tab] +Subtask 3

Is there a way to make MS Proj show the '(3)', ie the count of the number of subtasks?
In other words, if I added a fourth subtask, this value would automatically update to '(4)'.
Note I preferably want to achieve this in the "TakName" column, but if it can be done in the Gantt Chart, that's OK too.

Thanks, Les.

perhaps WBS numbers will suit.
Tools > Options > View tab, check 'Show Outline number'

You didn't say if you were able to demote tasks into subtasks without difficulty, so i assume you did that OK
