The default behavior of Windows is to cascade windows as they open. Can this be disabled so that each application always opens its window in the same place? This is particularly desireable for multi-window apps like IE, Word, and Windows Explorer.

The only way I've been able to do this in the past is to stretch the window wide enough that a cascade would put the right edge of the new window off-screen, so cascading does not occur. But I now have a wider monitor, and I'd prefer smaller windows for most apps.

I'm not sure it this is what you are referring to but if I want Windows to remember the particular size of a window when I open a program I open the program, resize the window to desired, hold the shift key down (sometime it's the Ctrl key) and click on File | Exit then reopen the program.

Close, thanks, but this only saves the size. I'm wanting the (top-left) position fixed as well, so that if I open two windows - say 2 Word docs - the second window is directly over the first.

BTW, what does the Shift or Ctrl do? File/Save or File/Close has always been enough to store the window size.
