If I design a web page using Fireworks. How do I slice it into smaller images so I dont have one large image file? I'm dont want rollovers or anything, just the imagee sliced up into smaller ones?

Well I have make some great sites all in Fireworks. I sure loved the ease of it and as I learned more about Fireworks I noticed that everytime I made a site all in FW that it was just too big. I wish there was a way around it. If you can get Dreamweaver, which I used to import these sites into then FTP them, DW slices everything into pieces, into their own little gifs. So now I learned that even though you can make fully functional sites all in FW that it is not worth the bandwidth.
So now am using Flash and just making my images in FW.
Dont know if this helps but cant see how anyone can make a whole site in FW and make it a small file. Besides, everything made in FW is an image. Even text make there and imported into Flash takes too much file size.

Hey emcom,
You can design an entire webpage in Fireworks. In order to slice an image into smaller pieces, just use the slice tool (green knife)to draw the different slices you want. Contrary to the belief that Fireworks only exports images, you are able to designate slices as text or as image, allowing you to export both images and blank cells. Simply select the slice and change the TYPE info in the Object Panel.
Good Luck,
Tim

Thanks guys. I've only started using Fireworks this week and I think its possibly the best package I've ever used for constructing quality web page quckly. If used in conjunction with Dreamweaver and Flash, some really good sites can be built vwey quickly.

Thanks again for yoour help.

yes you can construct an entire site in FW. Slicing with the slice tool and optimise each slice thus reducing the file size. Once in DW you can disgard any slices you dont use. (especially if the backgd colour is the same as your slice)
Loving kids is easy, letting them go is harder...

I wouldnt say you can not, but if you import the images created in FW to, say DW, then you are only bypassing the extra. The extra being background, which is not only background in DW but also a gif or what ever. Why not take what you create, put in DW, select a BG color and select slicing there to optumize? Doesnt make sense?
