In Illustrator I can create a star burst -- like the kinds on ads with BIG SALE text inside the burst. I do this in Illus by drawing a circle, then go to filter, zig zag and customize it from there.
Click/hold on rectangle tool to get options for polygon & eleipse. Pick polygon. Double click on the polygon tool to get number of sides and star inset settings. Play around a bit, but that will give you what you want.
To interactively adjust the shape, skip the double click to enter points and inset. Instead, just click and drag on the page where you want the starburst. While holding the mouse button during the drag, rap repeatedly on the arrow keys to adjust number of points and inset.
Double-clicking on the polygon worked like a charm! This is so much better than creating this in Illus, linking it to the doc, etc. It will help when I package the doc to send to printer -- less links to worry about, smaller file size, plus it's easier to edit!
This is the kind of stuff I'd love to see in a book (or magazine).
