I routinely make OLE connections from PC programs to AS/400 files. Is it possible to have an RPG program running on the AS/400 make a connection to a file stored on a Windows server? I have a project that would really bennefit from this type of connection.

I have not done this using RPG(but I might be wrong). I use a language called SQR(SQR server is installed both in AS400 and also as a client in my PC). I use ODBC to connect to different databases like oracle, sybase, sqlbase etc. With the SQL statement you have to provide the connect strings to connect to the proper database. I have used this very intensively specially during migration of databases(I did with one of my client) where AS400, Tandem and sybase data are migrated to oracle in just one program.

You could use ftp and pull the file to a db2 file.
