Can I backup to a tape drive on a workstation?

I have Backup Exec 8.6 installed on a server running NT4 and Exchange 5.5.
As the server room is on the floor below me I would like to install an HP DAT40i on the PC in my office (XP Pro).
I know you cant share a tape drive, but is there any other way to do this?
