Hi,

I'm a beginner with Postscript and maybe this question has been asked before.

I have a file containing several Postscript documents.
At the start of each file there are several embedded fonts (Type 42). Because of this, the file is quite large.
Is there any way in which I can define the fonts just once ? Either in the first document only, or in a font dictionary ?

Any help or pointers much appreciated !

You "have a file containing several Postscript documents". What kind of file is this? Do you mean you have a single PostScript language file that contains several pages?

A "font dictionary" and an "embedded font" are essentially the same thing. In other words, a font dictionary is a PostScript construct to manage and use font resources within a PostScript program.

If your PostScript program is properly constructed, you should be able to define fonts once, in the prologue (at the start of the program), and each page subsequently could use those definitions.

Please clarify what you mean by "file" and "documents" in this context.
