I have a client that has 25 lines and need them ALL to appear on 2 of the sets. My thought was to provide a DSS addon to the 4424D. Does the DSS allow me to add Lines or just Stations?

How can I accomplish this?

then how do i provide a station that has over 25 appearances?

I have a Magix and installed a Merlin Messaging board. Msg' board light is amber, and inventory says it is an 008 OPT board. What is wrong? I did a frigid restart and it is still the same thing? Help !

Is there a port card installed in the Messging module? The status light can be green or red. If your amber means "red" - then it may be indicating problems with the Messaging Module. Is this a new or used messaging module? Has the module been defaulted to factory specs?
Your processor may interpret the Magix Messaging as an 008 OPT card in "inventory". Older versions of the processor software did that - it does not indicate a problem.

Is a new card. Rev 4.0 I had a green light earlier but could couldnt get a logon with hyperterminal.

how do i default the msg board? i defaulted the Processor and then renumbered and that didnt help.

Did you set a password for the admin mailbox? Did you use that password when you tried to log in via hyperterminal? Can you log in to the admin mailbox? Is the Messaging board set up (meaning an integrated vm group set up, messaging ports rotary enabled, etc.)? What happens when you try to dial in to the messaging module?

It is possible that you have a "bad" module. I assume you have a port license card installed.

no, i havent configured the board at all. yes, 4 port license card. i wasnt even getting a logon in hyperterminal, just stopped at "waiting for normal mode" or something to that effect.

Sounds like you have a defective module. Have you tried it in a different slot? What does the processor error log say (regarding the module)? When you look at system status, what does it say for the messaging board? Have you tried to reset and restore the messaging slot?

thanks for your help. i replaced the messaging board with another new one and that was the problem. i guess an amber light isnt good.

any ideas on my prior post as far as how I can get a station to have in excess of 25 lines?

You can use a combo of the 4424LD+ phone and DSS to program as many line buttons as you care to. Maybe you need two DSS's - one for programming your line buttons and one for extensions j- just to keep things from getting confusing. The DSS buttons (except for the preset paging buttons and bottom rows - can be programmed to represent extensions, lines or whatever sequence code you want.

oh, awesome. I thought the DSS only allowed extensions only? earlier guys said that line appearances couldnt be programmed on a DSS. you are 100% certain right?

The default on a DSS is extensions buttons - but you can program them to represent lines from 801 - 880.

I would use one DSS for extensions, and a 2nd to program the default extension buttons as line buttons instead.

Check the Feature Reference manual under the DSS chapter - and you will see that the DSS can be pretty flexible.

You can also renumber your lines to "FIT" the DSS Console.

You could have one Page to be your 2xx Extensions, and then renumber your lines to be in the 3xx range.

-OR-

If you only have a few lines and stations, like 10 lines & 40 Extensions, you could actually number your Lines in with your extensions.

That can "lock youi into" a design you may not want down the road, so use that idea with caution.
