As far as I know you can't add it from scoadmin. I´ve never done it anyway. There is another tool though.
Don't bother to involve the pc as well.
It´s good that you have an ip configured on the axis-box.
If you run telnet or ftp to it (default l/p = root/pass) you should find a file there called axinstall. It's a unix-script that will help you install axis-printservers on various unix systems. Since you use a rather old axis-printserver I suggest you download the latest version of axinstall from
As you probably know there are several interfaces on the axis-box (PR1-6) which you can modify from the web-interface. You should use PR5 which (default) has the cl/lf parameter.
go to /etc/hosts (or your dns) and enter the ip of axis-box as well as a suiting hostname for it.
Put the axinstall script on your SCO system and run it.
When you run axinstall you'll have to answer some questions. Depending on which version of axinstall you have, you'll answer different questions. I can't therefor give step-by-step instructions. Here are some questions you'll meet.
It will try to autodetect your OS and successfully for most parts. If not... specify your OS.
I suggest you don't print using ProsA or ProsB (more difficult to set up and maintain). When/If you get a questions about that choose FTP as printing sollution.
When it asks for hostname of printserver: write the hostname you entered in /etc/hosts
If will at some point ask what logical print number you want to use. (PR1-6). Choose 5 for cl/lf support.
choose the name of the que, or hit enter for default.
ftp-filter directory should be default.
When finished installing try printing to it using this command.
lp -d [que] [file]
also run lpstat [que] to see if it's enabled and accepting jobs.
I'm not sure I would understand what I write so feel free to ask when you don´t understand. /Sören
