can find smtp

i am running sendmail with mandrake 8.1 i can send mail and recieve mail with my linux box and on the windows boxs i can send and recieve both of the boxs are on the same network but when i try to log in to the server from outside the network i can recieve but cant send out i get and smtp error all the ports are mapped right i used webmin to up the server is there something that is timing out or is there some other problem please help thanks for your time

What kind of error do you get? Is it something about relay?
From outside of you network do the following and tell me what is the answer:

telnet your.smtpserver.com 25

you should see something like:
220 your.smtpserver.com ESMTP Sendmail v.v.v/v.v.v; Mon, 18 Feb 2002 11:47:41 -0500

then type:
helo domain.com

you should see : helo domain.com nice to meet you

mail from:your@mail.com

you should see : sender ok

rcpt to:mail@you.want.to.send.to.com

you should see: recipient ok
