Can Extra mod charge in Aloha?

Using the stock modifiers built in Aloha: the NO, SIDE, EXTRA buttons---is there a way to configure the system to automatically upcharge with the EXTRA key?

The way we usually handled this in the past was with MIX MAX FREE on the modifiers screen. For example, if someone wanted EXTRA RANCH on their salad, the server would just hit the RANCH mod twice. The system knew the first dressing was free with the salad, and then automatically charged when it was hit the second time. Upon seeing this, the kitchen staff knew that seeing RANCH twice on the kitchen chit meant EXTRA Dressing.

Obviously, this way works fine. I was just curious if the system could do this.

Id i understand what you mean, are you wondering if you can add a price to a modifier, such as ranch or dressings. If so all you have to do is open up the moddifier screen on the BOH and double click on one. Instead of use item price choose the top one and add your ammount you want to charge. Im srry if i didnt undestand ur question.

Thanks Shadow. I probably wasn't clear enough.

I know you can add prices to the modifiers, and tell the system to give so many free, force them to make a selection, etc.

What I was referring to--is at the top of your modifier screen is the option to add NO, SIDE, and EXTRA to the modifier. For example, say someone orders Nachos. And on those Nachos, the customers want's NO ONIONS, Jalepenos on the side, and extra beef.

So, the kitchen sees:

Nachos
No Onions
SD Jalepenos
Xtra Beef

All Aloha is really doing is adding the words in front of the modifier. Which works great for No Onions (your not going to charge the customer for removing onions), and in most cases, it works well for items "on the side" also.
However, stuff that is Xtra is going to cost the restaurant money--you obviously want to charge for that (ok, maybe you won't charge for extra mayo, but you do want to charge for extra meat). I never really paid much attention to it, because we've handled it another way in the past--but on the system I was messing with, hitting EXTRA and then BEEF, shows up just fine, but it doesn't charge for it.

It could be that Aloha just intended this to a quick and simple way to "modify your modifiers", and that something more involved--like adding additional charges--needs to be handled elsewhere in the system.

I thought maybe adding "weighted values" to certain items could address this, but I wasn't sure. Figured it was easier to ask, rather than play around with it for hours.

When you hit the no mod and select a modifier with a price attached it does not charge.
But I think I know where you are going with this, and what I do is create modifiers that say extra beef, extra sour cream, for the upcharging. Sometimes there isn't a way around it because you can not make one item do three different things from one menu.

That's kind of what I figured. It's funny, I have been working with Aloha forever, but that's one of those things you don't pay much attention to unless you're an end user. I am suprised I have never been asked about this before--I guess end users have just dealt with it in their own way.

In reality, I wouldn't think it would be that hard to do. More or less code it into the system that when a mod is preceeded by the EXTRA key, to weight the modifier as TWO selections, as opposed to one. That way, if the mod screen was set up as ONE FREE, it would automatically upcharge the price of that item (since it's counting it as two). But the way it is now is fine, as far as I am concerned. If they want EXTRA Ranch, just enter Ranch twice--it's easy enough to understand.

Just thought I'd ask.
