I'm having major problem with my dialup connection and seem to have eliminated all causes except for Win2K itself.

Is there a way to uninstall and reinstall Dialup Networking in Win2K?

thanks,

Roy

I have had a problem with my dialup on Win2k. It would keep trying to negotiate over and over but only connect sometimes. I removed/reinstalled the TCP/IP and dialup from my ISP connection but it made no differance.

I finally reinstalled my modem drivers. When I did this Win2k said the drivers were an update from what I had, but they are the same drivers (from the same CD I first installed). After I reinstalled the drivers everything came right.

Win98 has a problem with the Dialup Adaptor getting corrupt but I don't think it has the same problem in Win2k.

Also try installing/reinstalling Service Pack 2.

Thanks for that info.

It's not my Dialup Connection or my modem driver. I've reinstalled them both many times. I'm getting inconsistent speeds and poor handshaking. I've changed modems and anything else I can think of. The same line and connection works fine on another PC. My ISP say they don't have a problem.

And I recently reinstalled/Upgraded Win2K. Problem was there before the reinstall.

As the Americans say .. Go Figure!

Thanks,

Roy

Is the modem a Hardware or Software (Controlled) Modem?

If the line quality is down a software modem (usually a WinModem) will not work well. The software modems are susceptible to line noise.

A hardware modem is more robust and doesn't care about anything. New Zealand, a great place to live.

It's a generic external hardware modem. Was working fine and I have a second version which as I said I swapped without solving the problem.

Thanks,
Roy
