Can definitions folder be moved?

Server is running low on disk space on C: Live Update downloads files to C:/definitions. Can this folder be moved to D:? If so will the clients update ok? Will Live Update work ok? Will server be protected also? This is just to get us by for about 6 months till we get a new server.
