Hello All:

We are having an unusual problem. We can create new mail boxes on our Exchange 5.5 Server, but we are not able to access the mailboxes after they are created. This happened all of a sudden. Could a MS update have messed us up?
We are running Exchange Server 5.5 (build 2653.23), SVC Pack 4 on an NT 4.0 box. Thanks to anyone who has any answers to this...

Regards,

JF

The new box you created might have existed before such as an ex-employee's mailbox, in which case you will have to recreate with a unique name.

If the email box "johnK" existed once before for "John Kerry" and you deleted it, creating a new box for "John Kennedy" will have trouble accessing it due to unique mailbox identity in Exchange.

I would like to comment on your post, dennisbbb:

We are CERTAIN that this mailbox did not exit previously. In fact we can create new (unique) mailboxes all day long, but we are not able to access them. The only way I can open them is with the service account. Thus, users that we create the mailboxes for can not access them. Thanks for the assistance.

if you run an NT server, just recreate the account and then exchange will have that new account that it inherits from the NT account creation

Try sending a test message to the account. Even though you create the mailbox, the mail store isn't created until you send a message to it.
