I have a win2k3 vpn server. When i vpn into it from my home win xp pro machine, I cant seem to be able to browse to my shared files on the server. It does conenct and when i go to the sever i see my connection in rras. When i try to go to my network places and find \\server1 on my domain it says i dont have permission. I am logged on as the domain admin through the vpn, so i know i do have permission. I think something is not checked. When i go on to the server with the vpn connection still alive, I can access the shared files on my home pc. What am I missing?

make sure you have File and Printer sharing installed and Netbui installed. Also make sure you are entering you login as DOMAINNAME\USERNAME.

via the windows client, you do not have to specify DOMAINNAME\USERNAME, as there is a specific text box to enter the domain name into.

Netbeui, as RouterKid1 said, needs to be installed on both the server AND the client machine connecting.

Also, make sure your firewall isn't blocking any traffic on the needed ports for file and print sharing on the client or server machine.

Thats right he should nt get a password prompt from that screen, My Mistake Sorry

im getting the same problem - i can connect to the network but cant see anything on it
i setup my vpn connection on the remote computer to allow you to enter your domain information, when you enter the domain though the computer cant authenciate. when you remove the domain it authenticates but you cant browse the network.
any suggestions?

I found that once the VPN tunnel is running, the only way to access the shared folders was by forcing a map network drive via command line.

You can easily put them in a batch file to run when needed but unless you remove the network share map , it tends to just sit there in windows explorer with a cross against it until you connect via VPN again.

the command is as follows...
Code:
net use [driveletter]: "\\[name of server]\[name of share]"
