Maybe someone can help me, I can connect with my dial-up and surf the web and check email, BUT, I cannot connect to my game servers or ping any site at all.I use earthlink and dont have a firewall or anything else running on my pc.I use WinXP

Regarding pinging (or lack of) it is possible your ISP may be blocking ICMP. This may be due to security reasons (MS Blast worm would generate massive amounts of ICMP traffic during it's discovery process which prompted alot of ISP's at that time to disable all pinging on their networks). Ask Earthlink about this.

Oh I almost forgot, since you are using WinXP check to see if Windows Internet Connection Firewall is active. To check goto your network connections. Right-click on your dialup network connection and select properties. Click on the Advanced tab. If Internet Connection Firewall is checked then try un-checking it and see if that works.

WARNING: It is always advisable to have a firewall on your PC even if you are simply using dialup. Although this may resolve your current issue it also leaves your PC at risk of potential hacker and worm attacks and such. So you should weigh your risks accordingly. Me personally, I ALWAYS have my firewall running, but I use ZoneAlarm or Norton Internet Security because it is much more configurable than Windows firewall.
