Hello all,
We are a shop that settled on MicroStrategy after evaluating both Cognos and MicroStrategy. One of the key issues that arose during our evaluation was support for non-tool generated SQL. We wanted to be able to not only enter SQL freehand, but to also edit the SQL that the tool generated when necessary.
MicroStrategy doesn't have this capability, but we were assured that Cognos did. The requirement didn't turn out to be crucial at the time though and our Business Partner users chose MicroStrategy. We are now reviewing that requirement and have been told recently by a Cognos sales rep. that Cognos only allows a desktop user to edit SQL and run it in desktop and that the freehand sql cannot be published as a web report.
Can somebody please straighten me out on just what Cognos can do in regard to both editing tool generated SQL and entering SQL freehand and then publishing reports from that SQL?
Thanks very much to one and all.
