Can cat5e Cables run 1000mbs??

We got all new wiring in our new office and if the cat5e can go gigabit then i will get gigabit switches.

I do realize that the NICs will also have to be gigabit...

It mentions that you would need to use all 8 wires in the cat5e cable instead of the 4 wires that you would use for 100Mbps

So i would say that if you rewired the ends of your new cable runs then you can put GigE over it

I have heard of gigabit networks over barbed-wire that have worked. I never saw the demonstration, but a buddy did, and he said it works (yeah, right).


Of course, they are stating that you have to have their stuff to work, but hey, thought it was interesting....
