Can BRI be used like T1 w/DID's?

New to BRI on CICS, old to T1/PRI on MICS...I'm reading the IG for the CICS, says "If you are configuring auto-ans BRI trunks to map to target lines, program the rec'd number for the target line to be the same as the Network DN supplied by your service provider". So am I correct in thinking that using a BRI-U4 (4loops) will give me 8 separate DID & rec'd numbers?
Thanks

Okay, maybe I posted too soon just read that it can be done. Anyone have any "tips" or "gotcha's" or is this as straight forward as T1 on a MICS?
Thanks

CICS rather than MICS...

I've been interested in doing this for some time, but never got around to it. You can have up to 8 ISDN trunks. Target lines on the CICS are 061 to 086 which says to me that you can have up to 26 DIDs on the CICS as long as your carrier will deliver the additional numbers. I call it the poor man's DID. I went looking for a BRI card a while back and only found one, so I don't think this is a popular approach, but I think it has lots of possibilities in the small business market, especially in states like Tennessee where ISDN is dirt cheap.

Let us know if you install one of these.

Biggest problem is finding a service provider that will get you this. supposably this is part of the ISDN BRI but my LEC (SBC) does not offer any kind of DID on the BRI's. It may be just Nortel having something in place way ahead of the suppliers of the services.

I put in, for one customer, 8 ISDN's for 16 trunks (small call center) each ISDN line had two SPIDS and two Network DN's that had to be programmed into provisioning. then I could assign the trunks to the telephone sets.

If voting could really change things, it would be illegal.

First, thanks for the replies.
Second, the end result is that here in rural East Central IL the cost of the BRI is more than the customer wants to pay, not a new concept there...
I agree Phonebiz that it sounds like a good solution for the smaller customer on a CICS that wants DID like service.
Jerry, did you use the network DN's as rec'd from the CO as the rec'd digits for the target lines and assign accordingly?
Thanks

It's been a while but I don't think so. the Network DN's were assigned in hardware and then assign trunks 1&2 (ISDN 1) to the telephone as appear/ring etc. up thru trunks 7&8 (ISDN 4) from the first ISDN Card.

When you assign the SPID's you need to use the full SPID code NXN-NNX-XXXX-NNNN the last four being the Purpose and use code, then assign the number of b channels the SPID has then put in the network DN's (Just the NNX-XXXX).

you will probably be given two spids in SBC territory but if you are only given one spid then you will want to assign 2 b channels to the one spid.

If voting could really change things, it would be illegal.

okay. We did one BRI U2 for a customer back when it first came out and it got removed a short time later. I don't remember much about it but I recall getting 2 SPIDs per loop.

I like your comment on voting.
