This will sound like an MS exam question.
Three domains, A, B, and C. Backup Exec server resides in Domain C. A and B are exclusively W2K domains; C is exclusively an NT 4.0 domain.
I have had no trouble backing up boxes in Domain B, the parent domain, from C. There is a two-way trust between B and C. However, I have just found out that there is no trust between A and C, either transitive or explicitly set up.
Here's the question: Is there any way that a Backup Exec server in C can back up a server in A, if no trust exists? I did manage to get the Backup Exec agent installed on the server in A after a lot of attempts, and I'm using the correct service account, password, etc. Error message is "could not attach to <drive>" on all servers in Domain A.
To me, if a trust means "I trust you to use my resources", a backup server cannot back up a server in another domain unless a trust exists.
What do you think?
