Can ATA & Softphone be Registered to Server together?

Can you keep your ATA registered to the VSP server and while away from home use a Softphone to register with VOIP server at the same time?

Will they both work without one knocking the other out when they each re-register through the same port?

I would like to not have to disconnect my ATA when I leave the house..so I can also use the Softphone (X-Lite)when I'm on the road.

Depends on your provider and there system.

I have 2 phones and a mobile registered permanantly to my system. It just rings all 3.

Thanks. I was concened that they would re0register over each other and grab ports causing the audio to drop.. Tom

To the server it should appear something like this.

sip:8016@10.33.30.95
sip:8016@192.168.50.15

(or)

sip:roztom@10.33.30.95
sip:roztom@192.168.50.15

but I still would check with your provider, they may have a setting only permitting 1 reg / user.

The audio ports are (I believe) 5060-5061 on my Softphone and 5061 on my ATA.

DO you think when they reregister that the last one to register would grab the port from the other?

Usually not. The ports are used to identify seperate numbers /lines on the SAME device, not seperate devices.

Your Softphone may appear like this.

1000@10.10.10.10:5060
1001@10.10.10.10:5061

What you will need to make sure is BOTH devices have the same information, User fields, account detail, etc etc.

You should be able to change the ports if required.
