Can anyone tell me what the following message from a normal BackupExec job log means:

============================================================
Job Operation - Backup
Media operation - append.
Hardware compression enabled.
============================================================

WMI Repository cannot be backed up because Windows Management Instrumentation service is not running.

A flat file backup of the appropriate files will be performed.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Is it as simple as locating/starting the service in question?

I failed to mention...this job is running on a W2K server running SP2.

Thanks...sjv

The WMI should be running as a normal service of Windows2000. You should be able to start the service, however there may be a problem which could prevent it from starting (since it wasn't actually running in the first place). Check your event log to determine why it's not starting if it doesn't start when you ask it to.

The problem would likely be unrelated to the backup system.

That's where I was leaning...I'll post back when I've had a chance to investigate. ________
