Can a shared variable be used as a parameter for the subreport?

I have come across a similar situation as in thread767-1550027(closed).I would like to know if I can use a shared variable as a parameter for the subreport.
(If you come across this post, pto160, Did you find a solution?)

If the variable is being calculated (set) in the main report, is in a section above that containing the subreport, and the variable required is the final result of the formula, simply use the formula as the "link" field for the sub-report parameter.
