Can a form be used to generate a query and report

Hello,

I have created a restrictive database- the database window is hidden, the design capabilities have been disabled, and queries and reports have been predetermined. Just when you think you have met end-user requirements (Why did God create such an animal as the end-user?), end-users will find something to complain about. The predefined queries and reports are too restrictive. They want to create their own queries and reports.

Is their a way to hide the design view and still let end-users create their own queries and reports? Also, I don't want them to save the queries and reports. I just want them to generate them and print them.

You could provide them with copies of Crystal Reports. They can link to the data and run their own queries.

You can run VBA code in a report's start up process that presents a form where the user sets options. For example you can have one report with options to show detail or just the totals.

You could provide them with a form with a text box in which they type the Access dialect of SQL and your code submits it. However, they would need to know table structures and you might want to filter out action queries such as DELETE * FROM MASTERTABLE.

I'm not sure if it will work in your situation, but you might look into setting up a report system based off a query where the query is built on the fly, given the users selection of criteria. for example, have a form with combo/list/text boxes for users to select what they are looking for criteria wise, then use their selections to change the querydef in code and open the report. did that make sense or do I need more coffee this morning? this is the way I have my latest db set up and the users and managers love it cause its such a flexable report creation tool and I love it cause it is end-user proof. if this is something that may be of use to you or if you would like additional information, please post back.

lol, before my first pot of coffee, murky is about the best I can do! Heres a link to the thread where I found all my info. I adapted bits and pieces of several peoples samples to fit what I needed to do, but you should get a general idea from this thread.
