Can 3rd party web apps integrate w/ SAP? 1

Hi all,

I'm a web application programmer, not an SAP programmer and know very little about SAP. Could someone advise me....

1. Can third party web-based applications be integrated with SAP?

Specifically,
2. What database does SAP use?

3. Is it possible to access the database directly?

4. Will the data (e.g., employee data) stored in the database be readable from the back end, or can it only be viewed by the SAP user interface?

5. Can the SAP data be modified by a 3rd party application (within the bounds of sanity, of course)?

>> Yes, you can view data using database vendor specific >>query tools.
