Can 2 servers share the same disk?

I have 2 independant X4600 servers that will both be plugged into a 3320 disk array containing 10 disks. Can the 4600s share a disk or do I need to isolate the disks, 5 for one machine and 5 for the other machine? Thanks in advance.

I don't think you can share the disks, you will have to separate them.

I am not familiar with the 3320. Does it have more than one SAN interface you can map your drives to?

You can share disks via a SAN switch (or built in switch) but sharing file systems is a little more tricky. What is your application? You will need something to manage the shared file system so your not stepping on the other hosts disk access.

If you have clustering software on the machines to control access to the LUNs on the array, you can share them. If not, two machines can both be attached to the array (providing you have multiple interfaces), but they cannot share the LUNs. You have to present each LUN to one interface and the machine with that interface can use it.

So, you can have 5 drives used by one machine and 5 drives used by another.

Unless you get some clustering software that can control/moderate contention for the disks.
