Has anyone ever used this feature successfully? Can it be used if the extension has VM? I can't seem to make it work properly and consistently. I was only able to look at it for a few minutes and I may have to go back in the near future to make it work for them.

Thanks in advance.

Jim

It can not be used when calls are eligible for coverage.

However, there is a really neat trick you can use involving COVERAGE OFF. This is used in an environment where the OPERATOR has to "HUNT DOWN" the call receivers. (Like a bunch of engineers that are never at their desks.)

In a nutshell, a user (Let's just say it was good ole' BILL) would activate his COVERAGE OFF button.

Then the OPERATOR, after trying to TRANSFER to BILL would get a TRANSFER RETURN from BILL's Extension.

Then the OPERATOR would CAMP ON the caller to BILL's Extension, and then, over paging the OPERATOR would announce, "Bill, you have a call from Joe Blow".

Bill, now has up to 5 minutes to either do a PICK UP of his extension, or return to his desk and answer the call.

Now, if Bill didn't get the call, after that "up to 5 minutes" thing, the call will ring back to the Operator, showing CAMP ON RETURN from BILL.

At that point, she could do a DIRECT VOICE MAIL to Bill's Voice Mail Box.

And, the neat part is, when night service kicks in, all of those COVER OFF BUTTONS get turned off.

Thus, calls to Bill's extension at night, go to his voice mail.

Merlin Man,
Thanks alot for the info. I was hoping that you would see this one.

That is the way that I thought it was supposed to work, however, the customer is saying that the calls are not returning to the operator after it times out. I just dialed in and checked, and the camp on return time is set to 180 sec's. What is the exact procedure for using this feature? Press transfer, Ext, and THEN camp on? Or is it transfer, camp on, ext? Thanks alot, again.

Jim

To use Camp-On (with a feature code): Press Feature (or #57) and dial the extention#. Or program Camp-On to a button and just press the programmed button and dial the extention#. What Camp-on does is allow you to transfer a call to a "busy" extention. The call is automatically placed on hold until the extention can receive a call or the 180 seconds have expired (in which case it is transfered back).
