I have a Nikon Coolpix 885 digital camera, somehow through some unknown issue with my comp(just got rid of a virus) my camera is reading as an imaging device when connected to the computer. To be able to get images from the memory card while the camera is connected to the computer via USB the camera needs to be read as a media storage device, I have the drivers the computer is using to read the device as an imagind device, and I also have the drivers needed for it to read as a storage device, but when I completely remove all of the drivers, reinstall them, and reconnect the camera, the computer still refuses to accept that it is a storage device. How can I get the computer to detect the camera as a storage device again? I 'update drivers' but I don't know what else to try. Thanks in advance

Mike

See if the camera offers an additional USB mode. You want it in "PTP" mode rather than straight USB.

there is no setting on the camera, however I did get it to accept the proper driver. Its just that now I cannot get the Nikon Transfer program to come up, its bundled with Nikon View, and everytime I install that program now it is glitchy as in I open the program, the title bar appears at the top of the screen like the application window is opening, but it then disappears. This is getting way out of hand, I am about to just go out and buy a card reader.

thank you though.

Mike

I am leary of that on my Nikon 4500. I suspect the Nikon software is processing the image as it takes it off the memory card. I don't know if it will run against a card reader, and you're saying the software will not run.
