Callpilot says that a backup is already running

I found that a particularly large customers scheduled backup has not been running. Assuming tape failure, I put in a new tape and told it to do an immediate backup and it came back with a message that said a backup was already in progress.
Is there a way to stop and start a service that would get this unhung or am I stuck with a reboot?
Error code that it shows me when I try to run a backup is 41809.
