CallManager and IP Phone Network Communication

I have a question,

When I setup my Callmanager Server on one segment (e.g. 192.168.1.0 /24) and I have an IP Phone on another segment (e.g. 192.168.2.0 /24), how do I configure the IP Phone and the Call Manager to communicate with one another, so the IP Phone can call other phones on the network. The reason I'm asking is when I add a new phone there is a field to input the MAC Address. Well if the Call Manager and the IP Phone were on the same segment then that would make sense. But for different networks that's different, so how would that happen and/or what would need to be done to get a CallManager and an IP Phone on two different networks to communicate? I'm thinking there is more I have ot do in terms of H.323 or MGCP. I honestly do not know. Any information and/or URL links for this would be great.

Thanks

Here's how it really works.. The MAC address is just an identifier for a config file that is stored in the TFTP folder on the callmanager..

When the phones boot up, they request dhcp option 150, which has the address of your callmanager tftp. The phone connects to the TFTP service, pulls down that config file with its MAC address then completes booting up..

The MAC really has nothing to do from the network standpoint..

Here's a document describing how to add Option 150 to your DHCP server (either Cisco or Microsoft DHCP).

Most installations will put the Call Managers in one segment, the phones in another and the data in a third.

If you decide to separate voice/data as I've just mentioned, remember that the phones must connect to your switch as a trunk - the connection has to carry both the voice and the data vlans.
