Calling Name Delivery Using SIP/Cisco 2431 and Softswitch 1

We are doing lab trials using a Softswitch to deliver IP T1 services to a Cisco 2431, and using SIP to deliver a PRI using NI-2 from the Cisco 2431 to a Mitel SX-2000 PBX. Most of the features work except for two, both involving Name delivery to the PBX.

If I turn the Name Delivery on, and monitor the D-channel to the PBX, the name is delivered, but not displayed on the PBX. The problem seems to be that the Mitel expects the name to be in a Facilities IE, but the Cisco is sending it in a Display IE. If we switch the Mitel to a DMS-100 using NI-2, name delivery works perfectly as the DMS-100 delivers the name in a Facitities IE. Is there any way to change where the Cisco delivers the calling name as far as the IE is concerned? It doesn't make sense that the DMS-100 is doing it "wrong", as we've never had a problem on any PBX with name delivery before. This only works when a B1 calls the Cisco 2431. The Cisco web site showed a workaround for the Cisco Call Manager, but not a 2431.

The second problem may be related to the first. If I turn Name Delivery on on the Softswitch, and dial from a PRI, the call is rejected at the 2431. If I call from a B1, the call processes thru the 2431 fine, with the exception that the PBX doesn't display the name. My guess is that the Softswitch is delivering the name in a Facilities IE, not a Display IE, when called from the PRI and the Cisco is rejecting it for that reason.

Any thoughts would be appreciated as I know TDM voice, not VoIP or routers. TIA!

Harris,

try adding a 'no isdn outgoing display-ie' to the serial interface configuration of the IAD & run a 'debug isdn q931' to confirm your display vs facility IE suspicion. Make sure you're on the console or if telnet'd in, also enter 'term mon' to monitor the debug you enabled.

Post what you find!

Well, we did everything, and found a solution to the first problem. Essentially, we found that adding:

no isdn outgoing display-ie

fixed this issue. The calling name now shows up in the Facility IE, and is displayed correctly on the PBX.

As for the second problem, it is currently believed that the SoftSwitch is the problem. It isn't even sending SIP messages to the Cisco.

Will post more if anything more found. Thanks!
