I compile an html help (.chm file) for our VisualFoxPro application. I gave it to one of our department programer, and he put all the validations necessary (a function to call the proper id when the help button of various forms is clicked- context sensitive).

It works ok in Windows NT, but not on W95.

Is there some file, dll, that is missing?, any ideas?
thanks.

This from Chapter 23 of the VFP manual:

In addition to the .chm file you create for your HTML Help system, you can use a free-distributable setup program, Hhupd.exe, that will install and register the HTML Help runtime components listed below. Internet Explorer or the Internet Explorer runtime engine must be installed on your users’ machines.

Component Name Description
Hhctrl.ocx HTML Help ActiveX control
Itss.dll Dynamic link library that handles
                  compiled HTML
Itircl.dll Full-text search Dynamic link library
Hh.exe HTML Help viewer

You will find this setup program in the Redist folder in the folder where HTML Help Workshop has been installed.

In short, you can't just drop in the CHM file.

Robert Bradley

<a href= - Visual FoxPro Development
Dear Mr. Bradley,

Many thanks,
however i ran this .exe, but nothing happened. What we did, was to install on my pc (w95), VFpro 6.0, (full installation), then we tested and it work just fine.

Each form on our application has a help button, that when clicked calls the proper hmtl topic.

When we worked with the previous version (Winhelp, or .hlp), this worked fine. However, a special file was required "FOXTOOLS.FLL" to be placed at the folder where the application is located.

I guess we probably need a file like foxtools, but for html format, i'm right?

Many thanks and greetings from Ecuador, South America.

FOXTOOLS.FLL isn't really related to help files of either kind, though it is certainly possible that FOXTOOLS was needed by your application.

I must say that I'm not a big fan of HTML help as a user, though as a developer it is much easier and more straightforward. The situation you are encountering (missing support files) is a typical example of <random Microsoft complaint deleted>.
Robert Bradley

<a href= - Visual FoxPro Development

What do you mean with:
<random Microsoft complaint deleted>.??

thanks.

I mean sometimes Microsoft implements a new solution that is slower, takes more system resources, and introduces new problems (like the OP is having), all in the name of increased interoptability. Its a mixed bag, to be sure. The Windows Registry is another example: it solves some problems and makes some things easier, but introduces a whole new set of problems (such as Windows being rendered useless if the Registry is sufficiently trashed).
Robert Bradley

<a href= - Visual FoxPro Development
