Calling Group Programming

Can anybody shed some light on how calling groups are setup and how they are supposed to work. I think I am confusing them with hunt groups..not sure if they are or if they are like a acd queue?

Calling Groups and Hunt Groups are really one in the same. Although in a Merlin system they refer to "hunt groups" of extensions as "calling groups". If you download the Feature Reference Manual from the Avaya website for the Processor firmware you have - there will be about a 30-page chapter explaining "calling groups" and how they are set up. Some people refer to Hunt Groups - when talking about Telephone Company lines and how they are usually setup in a "circular" hunt group - both by the Phone companies when ordering multiple business lines - and when your lines are setup in a Pool of lines - when running a phone system in Hybrid/PBX mode.

Tom, thanks for the response and I did find the feature reference but I am still a little confused. I am trying to setup four different groups with three extensions in each group. They are wanting to have direct calls to any of those extensions hunt to the extensions within the group before going to voicemail.I set up calling groups in a circular hunt but does not work. Would I even need to use call groups to accomplish this?

If you want calls to the Hunt Group covered by voicemail - then you need to perform several steps.

First you would need to overflow that Hunt Group to the voicemail calling group - usually 770 at a specified number of seconds (which would define how long a call would ring the group - before the group's mailbox answered).

2nd - you would need to create a mailbox for your hunt group extension number in voicemail.

3rd you would need to designate a message reciever for the hunt group mailbox - so their message light would light whenevr a voicemail was left for the group.

You would need to do this for each hunt group.
