Calling Group for paging system setup. 1

Before I pose my question, I'd like to thank you all for the great support you provide in this forum.

In our school district we have three Magix 3.0 switches each in seperate buildings networked together. Each building has a bogen PA system that provides handsets in each classroom. The PA systems are connected to the switch by 4 or 8 Tip/Ring lines. What would be the best way to create a group to allow extensions to call the pa system.

I'm thinking that I want it to be linear and use auto-login.

Here's a stupid quesion for you, can I dial a calling group or do I need to set up a phantom extension and assign it to a calling group?

thanks for your help

My first thought would be to give extensions the appearance of the LINE to access the paging zone for that particular user.

There are access codes for all the calling groups which you can dial.

What happens when you go off hook on the phones in the rooms? Can they dial other rooms with different numbers than the switch? Can they dial a different code to get outside lines in this case the ext. numbers? If so then you don't need calling groups. Just dial code for outside lines then #9 and trunk # for paging.

alebe,

What does it mean to give extensions the appearance of the LINE?

ken1713,
The paging system is standalone. It only connects to the phone system with standard tip/ring.

Paging system users can call each other within the paging system. They can connect to the magix system by dialing 9+8 and then recieve the magix dial tone where then they can call extensions or dial 9 for outside lines.

My issue isn't calling from the pa system, it is calling the PA system.

Not sure if that helps any.

Sorry I misunderstood the question which happens a lot with me. Look in the paging system for connections with outside trunks. I think a system of that size would be able to be paged from an outside trunk. If there is connect an ext to those connections and see if that works. Hard to tell when I can't see the system.

The paging system is connected to the phone switch via 4 standard extention ports. My question is how to setup a group to access those four ports (extensions) that are connected to the paging system. I can dial an extension number that is assigned to the port connecting the pa system but i need a group of some sort so that when the first extension out of the 4 is busy, the call will rollover to the next extension assigned to the pa system.

Sorry, I thought the handsets in the classrooms were Magix extensions.

are you using all of these station as a way to zone page ?
are they all using UPAM's from bogen ?
are you trying to do an all page ?

I have no clue what a UPAM is. I want people to be able to dial into the bogen so that they can call a bogen phone from a magix extension.

Everything works fine as is except I don't want to have to train people to dial one of the other 3 extensions that plug into the bogen if someone else is using the first.

That's why I'd like to have a calling group assigned to the 4 ports tying the bogen to the magix.

YEs, create a calling gtoup. with linear hunt, auto login. That should do it. Make a seperate one for each paging system. Do you know how to set up a calling group??

:)
aussie88, That's what i'm really looking for. I need details on how to set up the calling group stuff.

I'm not a regular user of forums, so I'm still learning. Next time I'll try to be more informative with what I'm actually asking. My bad.

Oh, its fine, ok, first, we need to put these extensions into a group. So, we shall go to Sys Program>Exit>Extensions>More>Grp Calling>Members>enter a calling group to assign extensions to>enter extension numbers>Exit. There, got one par out of the way, next, we need to tell it to make this group Auto Login. So, go back to Grp Calling>more>type>enter group number >Auto Login>Enter. Ok, so, one more thing to do, select the hunt type, and we want it to be Linear. So, go back to Grp Calling, go to Hunt Type>Calling group number>Linear>Enter. There, that should cut it. Call the group number, and see if the PA picks up.

Are there any considerations i should use for choosing a group number?

Extensions 770-791, and 7920-7929 should be standard calling group extensions. unless things have been renumbered, take your pick from any of those, just find out which is the voice mail group (normally 770) and dont use that

Well, hot dang! I gots me a purdy purple star! Thanks! Did the calling group work?

Calling group works great. Thanks!

Now, how would someone on switch "A" call a group on switch "B"?

I have teachers on one Magix switch (Elementary school)that would like to call the paging system on another Magix switch (Middle school) that is on a hunt group 790. If they dial 790, they get the hunt group on there own switch (Elementary School).

Do I need to create a phantom extension on each switch to forward to the local paging hunt group?

Ummm, let me consult the Networking Reference on that matter. Quite frankly, I am not familiar with the whole, networked switches, thing.
