I have just been called on as an consultant for and clinic that has a Norstar, but I do not know the codes to find out what version. The doctor is paying for caller ID but they don't get it on the phone sets. How do you find out the correct version of the PBX and if any one may be familiar with enabling if possible Caller ID??

the software version is on the flash card of the system if a mics or cics or if older it will say right on the software.to check if the system even is capable of caller id call the system from your cell and on the second ring press f811 and if it give u a name or number you have it and it just needs to be configured and if it doesnt then chances are the system doesnt have the capability at the moment but always can be added

On a MICS/CICS, LS cards and LS/DS cards do not receive and interpret Caller ID CO features. These are standard analog cards. The CI cards receive and interpret Caller ID CO features. Check what the cards in the KSU say and this will tell you what you have.
If you have a 3x8, 6x16, or 8x24 system, these systems do not receive Caller ID on the built-in lines, unless you have an expensive CID interpreter box for the system. These, however are hard to find and you are better off having the doctor cancel his CID service, or, if he really wants CID, convince him to upgrade to a MICS.

An 824 can not display caller ID without the M8 caller ID interface which is quite hard to find. Even with the M8 only one set per line can auto display caller ID. All others must use F811 to display caller ID before picking up a call. You'll need either a CICS or MICS to make full use of caller ID.

I just got a Norstar CICS 7.1 with a CLID cartridge and getting Caller ID to work has been a learning experience.
First, your system needs to have CLID capability, and second, you need to turn enable it set by set, and third, select which CO lines it will be shown for (also set by set). These settings are under the "Telco" features under the "Terminals&Sets" menu.
An easy test of the system's capabilty is to have someone external call you, and after you answer on your prime line, see if the CLID is displayed on your set. If it shows after you answer, but not before, your system has the capability and you need it enable it for each set. If not, your system might need an optional cartidge or upgrade.
BTW, anyone know how to get CLID displayed on a SLT with an ATA2? Thanks!

I agree, CID is very tricky on CICS/MICS systems depending on how you want to display it. But, fortunately, it can be done, just takes plenty of programming, patience, & hope for the best.
ATAs do not pass caller ID on. They are not capable of interpreting the data strings.

m6x24? if you mean 8x24 then you will need a M8 device which takes up 1 digital port also so make sure that you have 1 available. If you have a 12x0 trunk module attached to your 8x24 then you can install CI cards which would be much cheaper then the M8...

3X8 DR5 will support CLID, I have one at my house.
I have been reading the threads about CID with a Norstar system and have a question. I have an install (CICS, 6.1, I think) and the user had someone else come in and muck up the works when they moved offices.
In short, will a CICS w/ Star Talk Flash display caller ID on a set (T7316/E) when a call comes into the AA and then gets forwarded to the individual's set from the AA?
Keep in mind the user has no lines to appear/ring on their set (executive doesn't want to hear the phone ring, just wants incoming calls if they are for him/her).

In addition, this moves them into this century. There's a laundry list of features that are now available on a MICS that never existed when the 824 was a big seller.
