When someone calls into our organization I only get the number of the caller and not their name. How can I change that? I saw this note in the Pocket Reference:

Simultaneous display of Caller Number and Caller Name is
not available for PRI lines with Automatic Number
Identification (ANI) service; PRI (ANI) displays Caller Number
only.

What is ANI and how can I change that?

Thanks.

Well, you have to know what type of SERVICE you have.

If you do have PRI (Primary Rate Interface) you can only get the number.

If you have standard T&R Loop Start lines, you can get name and number (with a new enough Magix release) - and you can toggle name or number with a Feature Button.

Well, I do have a PRI and I didn't realize we couldn't get the name through the PRI. Is this a limitation of the MAGIX processor or are all phone systems like this?

Thanks again for your help.

I am not sure.

My only experience with PRI is the LEGEND/MAGIX and they don't provide A NAME.

Any one else?

It is a PRI protocol limitation. there are several version of the PRI protocol (the language spoken between the PBX and the telco), and not all of them support the transmission of name. It's my understanding that Legend/Magix do NOT support NI-2, and NI-2 is the only protocol that supports name on CallerID (and even then, not all equipment can do it.)
