Any special trick to make "Name" appear on sets? Customer has PRI w/DID's. All settings look correct, in fact you can scroll thru calling party line number, time and date of call and number of times, and line number received on. Just cannot get Name to show up AT ALL. In settings, we are asking for name first then number, but it will not display name at all! I wondered if XO has thier switch set up correctly at CO because for a while they thought my customer was a Meridian switch, but it is MICS and they said they fixed it. How would I know if it still doesn't work properly for my customer?

Any help appreciated!

Rich

As far as I know you can not get the name to appear, that is name display is not supported only number. I also use PRI, the number is the only thing displayed, not the name.

I was wondering the same thing about incoming name display. I also only get the number and using the display keys can view the Norstar line number that it came in on.
The information in the MICS 5.0 Syst Cood Guide, on page 179, heading of ISDN PRI FEATURES, leads one to believe that name is possible, and I quote, "Your Norstar system displays the name of an incoming call when it is available from the service provider. Name information can be displayed on a Norstar set but not on an ISDN terminal. If the Calling Party Name has the status of private it may be displayed as Private name. If the Calling Party Name is unavailable it may be displayed as Unknown name."
Comments from the Forum Experts sure would be appreciated.

Thanks for the additional responses in this thread. I agree, why is only the number provided in display. I have no problem setting name and number display correctly for CID LS/DS Analog Trunk Cards.

??!!

I too was looking for name information, it seems that it can be set to ON by the provider, but at least down here, Bellsouth decides not too.

DUH....

Analog caller ID is not even close to what is sent in digital format. The analog caller ID on pri is very simular to the comsumer product like caller ID boxes you ca get a any retail store.

The Norstar system(s) are a key -system not a full blown PBX, so the telco sends ANI / CallerID which would contain only the calling parties phone number or DID. During the 1st and 2nd ring, the Norstar system would have to sample the line and get the calling parties name or realtive information provided by the telco, which is not provided on digital sets unless you press DISPLAY when the phone is ringing.

If this feature is really a requirement, either an enhancement to the Norstar software and/or hardware owuld need to be preformed, and the format would need to be presented differently to key-systems. You know the teleCOs will tell us all to shove it.

norristechs - you're right! I work for a telco and the teleCO folks said and you can take your condescending remarks and shove them.

The PRI supports caller name but it does not come for free from the telco, I am not sure if the telco has to have special software to support it? (been told that) but if you receive the name id from the telco in the call id data packet it will display on the phone. The packet comes from the D channel (you can tell because the call id data shows immediatly and dosen't wait until halfway between rings) JerryReeve

You are correct Jerry. The CO switch needs the software option to deliver name and it can be sold as a tariff item.
