I am trying to set up a cordless phone in my house on a magix system with an 016 etr card and the caller id is not displaying on incoming calls. I have discovered that if I put the call on hold then take the call back off hold the caller id is then displayed. Is this function controlled by a simple phone setting, or is it impossible to get caller id from the 016 etr card?

I haven't worked with the Transtalks, but let me offer up 2 questions that might trigger a solution.

1) Is the extension set for immediate ring? If not, you won't see Caller ID information (at least that's how it works on wired system phones) unless you manually select the ringing line.

2) When calls ring in, does enough time for the Caller ID info elapse before someone (or an auto attendant if so equipped) answers?

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

Thanks Dexman for the info. I check the extension and it is set for immediate ring. Also I am giving the phone plenty of time to display the caller id. You did give me a great idea though... I have some old MLX phones at the office I can test with to see if it is something to do with the wireless phone or not.

Thanks again Brett

Hey Brett,

Let us know what you find.

I ran to work and grabbed a Euro phone and hooked it into the ETR port that the 9031 cordless was hooked into and the caller id displays fine. I have been reading the manual on how to set up the 9031 and all I have come across is that I have the 9031 set up as a Partner configuration. Not sure if this matters or not but the manual also stated that if you set it up as a legend configuration that the caller id would not work anyway. Still a bit weird where I can put the call on hold then pick it up again and the caller id is then displayed correctly.

I'm not sure if this is normal or not. Not having worked with a Transtalk, I'm going to have to step back. Other members might be able to carry this further.

Do you have your home phone number arrive as a Personal Line for that extension?

Try pressing the fixed "More" button on the phone and see if you get the CID. Normally, wireless phones on an ETR port present only the "first display line", which usually includes the trunk number or CID Name. The "More" key switches to the second display line, which includes the CID number. This is not a problem for two-line display phones, but is a problem for the 9031 Transtalk, which only displays one line at a time.

On a 9031, go to menu, options, display, and try 2-line instead of 1-line. You'll lose the 5-6-7-8 line, but you may gain the 2nd line of CID.

Ok, I have discoverd that I am able to view the CID if I pick up the line then hit the line button again. I am guessing this is the "More" button dagwoodsystems is talking about.

But I am still unable to view the caller id without picking up the line. Which is the only reason that you really want CID. "SCREENING"

TouchToneTommy... I am a bit confused in what you are telling me to do. Are you saying to program the extension in the phone system to display 2-line? Or is this setting in the 9031 phone? I have scanned thru the manual and have not come across this sort of setting.

You guys have been great... Hopefully one day I can help out new users.

Sorry, I was thinking of the 9040[/i] transtalks. You had the option of having 8 or 12 "buttons", which would give you 2 or 1 lines of alphanumeric display.

However, look in the manual at "line preselection", on page 79, which might allow you to look at the CID before actually pressing the Talk button to answer the call.

There appears to be conflicting information regarding Caller ID when comparing older Transtalk manuals with the more modern Magix Feature Reference guides.

Page 182 of the "MERLIN MAGIX® Integrated System Feature Reference Release 3.0 and Earlier" (May 2003, issue 1) manual suggests that programming a free button with a feature called Caller ID Number/Name Toggle (Code = *763) might just be what you're looking for.

The "More" button that I referred to earlier applies to MLX sets only.

Wow!!! finally with everyones help I figured out the CID on a 9031 transtalk. Persistence paid off.... although my wife was about to beat me over the head with the cordless phone.

TouchToneTommy pointed me in the correct location in the manual.

The trick is that you need to turn on "Preselection" on the phone. Once the "Preselection" is activated you are able to press the line button to view the CID with out answering the call. Still doesn't come across the screen when the phone is ringing, but I can deal with hitting a button to view the CID.

Thanks again for everyons help!!! This is a great forum.
