Just converted to ATT dedicated ISDN lines for long distance and toll free numbers, having a problem with outbound long distance calls display as unavailable to receiving caller from office. I have verified my trunk set up for allowing caller id to be displayed but still having problems. Does anyone able to help with the correct set up for outbound caller id using the main default number as the outbound displayed ID?

Thanks

I am running an Avaya VOIP with 8720 processors.

ATT should be able to do that for you, have you asked them. There is two ways that it can work (1) ATT sends the Main number or (2) you send the individual CLID for each station or the Main number.
And you never said what kind of switch you had

I would like to be able to broadcast the companys main number on outbound long distance calls.

I have an AVAYA VOIP running CM 5.1 with Avaya 8720 processors.

Make an outbound long distance call whil running
Code:
list trace tac xxxx

and see if you see the CPN number beign sent.

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

Thanks I was able to get the main company phone number to display, but is there a way that I might be able to controll the caller ID name that is being displayed from my Avaya switch running CM 5.1? When I do a trace on tac I now am able to display the main phone number but CPName field is blank. Will be alble to controll my caller ID name too like I am able to controll the caller id number?

The C-NAM (customer name) for CID is controlled by Telco or the service provider that updates the LIDB database. That is NOT something any customer or their equipment can do!

Telcos CAN allow CNAM to be controlled by the PBX - where you configure that name is dependent on the PBX (for example, in Nortel Meridian / CS1K, it's LD 95 CPND). However, most telcos by default over-ride that and send what is associated with your account.

Read the CLID article on Wikipedia; there's a section on CNAM delivery. In some cases, depending on your CO type, the name isn't passed to the called party's CO, and that CO must do a TCAP query. if it's not available, or they don't want to pay for that TCAP query, then "UNAVAILABLE" or etc will appear.

I'd bet that your new CO type is an 4ESS, maybe a 5ESS, and they're not sending the name. It's likely a telco issue. But yes, in ISDN, it *is* possible for your PBX to control your name, it's just up to your provider to 1) determine if they'll allow that, and 2) pass it on to the called party when a call is placed.

When I went to Wikipedia for "CNAM" this is what I found:

In general, CID as transmitted from the origin of the call is only the calling party's 10-digit phone number. The calling party name is added by the consumer's terminating central office if the consumer has subscribed to that service. Calling name delivery is not automatic. An SS7 (or Signalling System 7) TCAP query may be launched by the called party's central office to retrieve the information for Calling Name delivery to the caller ID equipment at the consumer's location if the callers name has not already been associated with the calling parties line at the originating central office. Canadian systems using CCS7 automatically (but not in all cases) send the calling name with the call set up and routing information at the time of the call.

It does NOT say anything about a user's equipment being able to sent different "CNAM"s with the originating calling info when the call is placed in the USA! So my original post stands!!

Eh, call your carrier - ask them. We have several companies that we manage their systems and they have the service from their telco to control CNAM. If you decode the IE's in the setup message, you'll see it... it's up to the carrier (and what services you subscribe from them) if they ignore/override it, or if they allow it to pass. I don't expect Wikipedia to contain vendor-specific programming knowledge - that was in reference to why UNAVAILABLE might show up. .............

There are no new 4ESS switches being installed because they have been manufacture discontinued! Maybe some 5ESS switches, if anything it would probably be a 7ESS packet switch.
