Ok. I'll bite. How is this supposed to work?

I programmed a button for it and thought I just hit the button and the line I want to inspect the caller ID info for, but that doesn't work! It just picks up the line.

How do you implement caller ID inspect?

Hi jonnyGURU,
What release are you working with? The R6 will give you the info if you press a line that is ringing on your phone. If you press the line twice, you pick it up.
To use the Feature (17), press the caller ID inspect button. When it's flashing green, press the other line button and the info will pop up. This works if you are on another call too.

R7, and when I hit the "Feature 17" programmed button and then the appropriate ringing line appearance, it just picks up the line. Sure, I get caller ID info, but I would get that if I just picked up the line any other way. ;)

Let me guess... Feature removed for R7? ;)

Hi jonnyGURU,
What happens if you don't use F17 and just press the ringing line once?
-Chris

That's a little different than I'm used to. I will try that myself when I get a chance.
-Chris

Hi jonnyGURU,
Well, my R6 doesn't do that. Hal, you might be right!
-Chris

My understanding of this feature is that, quoted from the ACS Programming and Use Guide:

"This feature allows a user active on a call to view caller ID information for a second call, without disconnecting the current call or putting it on hold. Users can inspect ringing, active, or held calls.

June 27 Build"

Basically, you have to be active on the phone system in order to use F17.

Hi Dan,
That's what I got out of it, but by just pressing the line you should get the info. JonnyGURU says it picks up the line with the R7.
-Chris

The way that I understand that it works, you have to be active on a call, you push the [Caller ID Inspect] button (green LED on) and then push the line that you want to inspect. The will display the information for that line. Push the [Caller ID Inspect] button again (green LED off) and the information for the line that you are active on displays again.

Basically, the way I understand it, if you are not already active on a call the feature doesn't work.

If you are not on the phone or press it before your Caller ID Button is flickering it will either disocnnect the your call and answer the line you pressed or just not work.

telprog: Press WHAT before the Caller ID Button? What Caller ID button? The Caller ID Inspect button?

This is what happens... I'll summarize so we can avoid the double posts:

Customer is on line 1.

Call comes in on line 2.

Customer hits CALLER ID INSPECT while still on line 1.

Customer hits line 2.

Now, this is how it SHOULD work. At this point, Caller ID info should show up on LCD. INSTEAD what happens is line 1 hangs up and line 2 is picked up instead.

Of course, caller ID info is displayed at this time, but it would have regardless!!!

Thanks guys.

Sorry I meant to say Caller Inspect button, You are correct it shouldn't hang up line 1, it works on my 6 also so perhaps this is another damn bug on 7 as if they don't have enough bugs already.

Well, they had this sorted out. Maybe someone from the Magix team moved over....[upsidedown]

jonnyGURU,

When "Customer hits CALLER ID INSPECT while still on line 1.", is the green LED flickering next to the CALLER ID INSPECT button before "Customer hits line 2."?

--Dan

Solid eh? Personally I would check the programming, Caller ID Name gives you a solid LED, but Caller ID Inspect gives you a flickering LED.
