caller ID inspect

When using an auto attendant would like to see the caller ID info prior to answering (this is the point isn't it?). I have an inspect key. I have caller ID working (when AA is not in play). The book is very vauge as to whether this is even possible. Anybody doing this successfully today who would like to share?

Do you have your AA answering after at least 2 rings to allow the CID info to be captured?

Sometimes all it takes it letting go and throwing in the towel...then it all comes right to you. I have answered my own question and would like to share for my own selfish reasons....if I write it down and post it on the web, I won't have to try and remember next time.

1. You need 2 rings for call ID info to "register." so if the Auto Attendant answers immediately, this will not happen. So set #506 to 2 rings

2. This will anoy everyone because now their phones ring for every call. Use central prog to set each callers line ringing to delayed or no ring. I like delayed because then you will know should you have a voicemail failure.

3. Give users an inspect key

how to use:

1. you must be "active" on a call. So if you are not active on a call you will first need to press an intercom key (activating the spkr phone)

2. Press the inspect key. It will flutter green leting you know that you are now in "inspect mode"

3. press the line of the call being transfered to you....You will now see the magic of caller ID

4. Press speaker again to "end your active call." This will also de-activate inspect mode

5. You may now proceed to answer or not answer the call just as you would previously, but now in a much more informed manner.
