The support I meant was on the telco side. If the telco line subscribes to CLID and Call Waiting CLID (second call inbound to the same line) will CICS 6.1 be able to acknowledge this and pass the CID to the display? At this point the busy Norstar set hears the 'beep' and may executes a LINK (F71) to 'flip' the telco line. Sorry about the ambiguity!
I would say no. The documentation makes no mention of CW-CLID. The feature is not typically used in an office environment, where a multi line hunt group makes more sense. After all, what would the user do if “the other line” were for someone else. He would have to disconnect one of the parties for another extension to pick up. Not to mention the problems call waiting would cause for held calls, AA, etc. I consider it an ill advised feature in any key system/PBX setting.
I wish Nortel would add this capability to the Norstar.
It would be nice for residential users that have systems in homes or have a small home office like myself.
It would also be good in some office environments where trunks are dedicated to users. Would be cheaper to add the feature for a user with the need instead of adding an additional analog trunk just for that person.
I know Panasonic has added this to some of their key systems, so maybe eventually Nortel will too.
Call waiting on a Key system?? What are you going to do with the call after you answer it? You can't transfer it, send it to VM or park it. You can't do anything with it except make the first call wait or have the second caller call back. So why answer it? The solution is a second rotary trunk.
pturner1 and sprucegrover:
I agree with each of you. The best solution is a second line in a rotary hunt with the main number. This question arose from just such a situation. A residence with a single main residential line - they don't want the recurring expense of a second line. They just want to know if they should interupt their conversation for a 'phone survey' or if they should take the 'call from the family doctor'. They have invested in the Norstar so it's not like they have a choice; if they want to see who's there they will need a second line. For this same reason office executives who often have a 'private' line even in a key/pbx environment would love to have this feature (not for everyone but I know I could sell it to a lot of small offices). Thanks for all the good feedback folks...
