Hello,
I Installed a Call Pilot 100 today and it would not bootup. The bottom LED would only blink fast I'm not sure if this is related to this Faq thread799-735419. What's really funny is I had this unit on the test bench and setting it up to get into the browser to program it. Got in with no trouble. I could access it with the PC or thru the phone programming.
KSU is MICS with 6.1. I can't remember but the software on the CP is the latest. What would cause this? The boot loader not loading as what is suggested in the Faq.Ports are good on the KSU,checked with phone on each one. Changed line cords.
Thanks,
Dmac,

Is it hooked up to a network? or Laptop? via the RJ45 port while booting? if so disconnect and boot up CP on it's own.

Make sure in maintenance programming that the ports used say what device is on them.

exsmogger,curly,
The card is in the back slot and is in securely. It is not hooked to the network or a PC with a crossover cable. I had the damn thing working on the bench at the office and it would bootup fine.Move it to the site and no go.
Thanks,
Dmac,

You say the "bottom" LED is blinking, can you be specific which LED is blinking?

TheAvayaGuy,

It's the B LED that is blinking. When the CP is powered up and the LEDS all stay solid for maybe 25 seconds and then all are dark for about the same amount of time. It then goes to the B LED blinking fast.
Dmac,

According to the Doc's from Nortel, a rapid flashing LED indicates a power-on fail.

It states to ensure the PCMCIA card is in the bottom slot. The only thing I can suggest is make sure the PCMCIA card is pushed in ALL the way. I had the same problem before, and I thought the card was pushed in, but really wasn't. It takes a far amount of force sometimes to get that card in. Make sure it's face up in the back slot and push hard. REBOOT and see what you get.

The card is in the bottom slot and I tried reinserting it back in and it is going all the way in. It was working fine on the test bench.
Dmac,

I would assume at this point, your CP or PCMCIA card is bad then, because your getting flashing lights, which indicate a power-on failure. Your CP doesn't even get a chance to load or sync with the Norstar.

I would suggest plugging in a serial cable, and using HyperTerminal to watch it boot up. See what it says. That's about all you can do, other then replace the unit.

Hey guys thanks for all the help on this one. They are going to replace this unit and I'm going to get it back to the office and hook it up to the laptop and do the HyperTerminal thing and see what is going on at bootup. I'll let you know as soon as I get the results.
Thanks,
Dmac,

Hey, I had the same thing happen to me about a month ago with a new CP 100 out-of-the-box. I plugged up my laptop and watched it boot up with Hyper. It went through part of the boot then the information started to scroll non-stop on the screen. A quick call to Nortel Support and they told me it was a boot failure - no fixing it. I had to get a new CP AND a new software card. If you can fix it other wise, let me know!

nortel had this problem with an earlier version of the bootloader ...now it is apparently solved.
about 15 callpilots died on me and none so far the past 6-7 months or so

Hey guys,
I had another Tech go out with another CP and got everything working. The mail that was bad was taken back to the office and it was sent back to where it was purchased. I didn't get a chance to Hyper Terminal it and see what was going on at bootup. It turns out that it wasn't the mail that I had working on the test bench. They gave us the one that would not boot, and was not tested. The replacemet was the bench tested unit.
Thanks,
Dmac,

I had the same problem wih a new Call Pilot and it was my fault I had a staple in the wiring to the unit , so I hope this will help some people.
