I have a site that wants to change their night A.A. to have a option that says:press 1 for a directory of attorneys, press 2 for a directory of para-legals--etc...
When they press 1-they will hear a spoken list of all attorneys.(John Doe 231,Jane Doe 232 etc)
I know I can do this through ccr-how ever--they want the calling party to be able to dial the extension as-soon-as they hear the correct name.(not wait for all of ccr 1's recording to end b-4 they can dial ext #)
Any ideas on how to make this work??

THANK YOU!!!!

Build an Info Mbox, so they can change easily, use a Leave Message path, and make sure they know to press *, before ext.#.

"For Pamela Anderson press star 232, for Lindsey Lohan press star 245", etc.

LOL

I think they want to be able to press the ext # right away while listening to the path.

This can be done if the path is setup as a Menu Path only? otherwise stuck listening to the info?

Incorrect curly, you can leave an Info Mbox at anytime by pressing * (Star) and the DN number.

Anybody want to back me up?

Curly-
If CCR is set as a menu path then the calling party can dial ext # @ any time??

Yes

A menu was designed to give single digit options but if more digits are entered they also will work.

Because it expects a single digit you will need to fool the system or you will get imcomplete tree so you should create a dummy path further down the menu.
So if you create Path 1 as a Menu then create a dummy Path 18 and have it as Transfer to reception.

Rerecording a menu can't be done w/o a tech. Rerecording an Info Mbox can be done by anybody, and what do you think the chances are that staff will change at the company.

Pressing a star ain't no big deal, you just have to precede each ext. in the greeting with, Please press star......

dcommusa, ask your client whether they want the option to change this list w/o having you come out?

Dewey I value all your answers from what I have seen but with due respect any admin of the site CAN and SHOULD be able to change any programming in voice mail and if not the admin is blonde or vendor has failed in training.
I think the question was "can I enter 3 digits without having to wait" and the answer should be yes?.
We are replying to a tech and not a customer in this case.

It sounds like to me it was rookie move on install to make it an info mailbox when it should be a Menu.

Totally disagree, 20% at max of Norstar customers can disable a CCR tree, go in and change a path, rerecord, and then enable CCR tree again. Believe me I've tried. The part that scares them is that they cannot go back if they fail.

Now, maybe because all my work was So Cal, where blondes are in abundance, I was faced with this. Apparently, it's different in The Great White North.

Obviously, there are 2 ways to do this.

1. Info Box- Easy to change, and your user can fit the written instructions on a Post-it note.

I agree with Dewey on this one. The more steps I give customers to change things, the more often they'll call me, and it's always an "emergency"; and they want me on site, not on the phone.

I don't think they're idiots, just that they have complicated, profitable jobs of their own, and don't want to learn mine. (Regardless of how accurate my instructions are.)

To simplify matters, when I use an info box in CCR, I usually start the recording with "When you hear the ext of the person you are calling, press *, followed by their ext #." This way, the next time the person calls, they know the extension is not "*221", but 221.

Also, make SURE AA/GRTG/AA/Return to AA=Y.

2. If your customer IS fairly proficient in following extensive direction, or they don't mind your service call charges, build it out as a CCR menu.

3. Another option- Encourage them to use # for dial by name.

Both options are equally right. If there were a standard answer for every customer, we'd be out of work. ;)
