Hi,
I'm relatively new to the Call Manager world and my company has Call Manager 4.1 which I have recently been charged with maintaining.
The system was deployed by an outside vendor and unfortunately I was not around when that happened so I didn't really have a resource to bounce certain questions off of.
Anyway, Our phone system time is running fast 5 minutes or so and I need to sync it with our PC system. How does Call Manager get the time that appears on the phones? Is this pulled from the server? I adjusted the time on the server however the phones are still incorrect.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe

By default CallManager 4 uses a 3rd party NTP Client - XNTP that is installed as a service - strangely enough called 'Network Time Protocol'. The default CCM OS install also disables the Windows Time Service.
The software is installed in the directory c:\program files\cisco\xntp, there is also a HTML help file installed there as well (winnt.html). The configuration file is stored in c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\ntp.conf.

The reason for not using the Windows Time Services is apparently its accuracy (or lack of), this is to allow highly accurate call logging information I think. Personally I have disabled the XNTP service and re-enabled the Windows Time Service and synchronised the clock with a Windows 2003 DC that is synchronising to a 'real' external NTP server.

You need to Logout and Login from your IP-Phone in Order to see the new adjusted time.

I agree with Andy. We disabled the XNTP service and are synching with our inhouse NTP pool of servers. Accuracy is never an issue now.

Thanks guys, I'll give it a try and let you know the results.

Ok, I took a look on our server and it appears both Windows Time Service and NTP are automatically started in services.

I went into the ntp.conf and entered our time server info in but unfortunately it did not work.

Is there any easy way to determine if they configured Call Manager to use Windows Time Service or the default NTP?

If they are both started there will be a conflict since they both attempt to update the system time. You need to disable one of them - the choice is yours.
The links I posted should allow you to configure the XNTP service, to configure the Windows Time Service refer to the Microsoft documentation.
