I manage a Mitel 3300 system, and someone on my system has been making calls to 911 when there was no emergency. HR wants me to find out who is making the calls.

How do I get a log of all calls made by all phone sets?

911 calls will be logged in the maintenance logs

I don't see anything for the day they said there was a false 911 call.

I should be looking at the 3300 System administration Tool, Maintenance and Diagnostics>Logs>Maintenance>All Maintenance Logs ?

What would the event look like in the log?

Yes that is the correct place. Weird that it is not there.
Helpfiles said:
Maintenance Logs are generated when
[ul]
[li]An emergency call occurs. This log identifies where the call originated.[/li]
[li]An emergency call is cleared. This log identifies where the call originated.[/li]
[li]The local notification record is cleared. This log identifies which device cleared the record.[/li]
[li]There are more than 32 local notification records. This log identifies that old notification data has been overwritten.[/li]
[li]When a designated CLASS/CLIP set that is receiving local notification goes off-hook to acknowledge reception of the notification (this is the mechanism used by a CLASS/CLIP set user to acknowledge reception of the notification and to also stop the notification). A maintenance log is generated to identify the user originating the acknowledgement.

Can I assume that you do not have a console where the 911 notification would be delivered?

This assumption being true, try this:
- Setup a key on a phone for emergency notification
- Setup a hunt group as an emergency group
- Add the phone above to the group
- Read 911 notifications on phone (the system buffers up to 32)

A thought occurs to me.

Do you know enough about ARS to see if the route used by 911 is designated as an emergency route?

No, I don't have a console for 911 notifications. And I don't know much about ARS.
I have since found out a more precise time of the 911 call, so I will check the log again.

OK, I took a second look at the maintenance log, and verified that there is no 911 or emergency call at the time it was reported. Is there another log that might show the call?

I looked at ARS settings.
dialling 911 uses Route List 11, which uses routes 11 or 13 which are non-emergency.
dialling 9911 uses Route List 10, which uses routes 10 or 12 which are non-emergency.

I assume that setting up a phone with a key for emergency notification won't work unless these routes are set to be emergency routes...

Jim

Yes, if the routes are not set to emergency you will not get notified.

This also explains the lack of logs.

Last resort is the SMDR buffer.

As long as your system has been set up to track external calls, the system will buffer up to 20,000 calls.

The SMDR logs can be read via maintenance command

logsys read SMDR all

That might take a while, so I might suggest you define a smaller number of records if appropriate with:

logsys read SMDR all newest XXXXX

Thanks
If I set these routes to 'emergency', calls on them will show up in the maintenance log, right?

Where do I enter the 'logsys read SMDR all newest xxx' command? Do I log in with putty?

Maintenance commands are part of the Web GUI under the Maintenance and Diagnostics section

Yes, I would designate the emergency routes with the emergency designation
