Hello all.

I have a customer that is interested in getting a new phone system and voicemail. There main desire is to be able to call forward their calls to an outside number. Problem is they want to be able to set the phones to forward from an outside location, after they have left the office already. Any ideas on a Nortel phone system/voicemail combo that will do the trick or any other ideas. [bigears]

Thank you in advance for any ideas.

Rg,

Any MICS/CICS system, Rls 4.1 to 6.1 and a Call Pilot Voice Mail will do as you are asking. Forwarding can be set and forward point changed remotely as required with the Call Pilot. Telephone sets may be forwarded, but from the office, and Voice Mail Auto Attendant functions may forward as well but not remotely.

As Arr said- only the VM outbound transfer options can be changed remotely, meaning before being forwarded, the caller would here a message saying "press 7 to reach my cell phone." You can forward your phone directly and bypass the voice mail, but you cant change, enable, or disable it remotely.

Being able to remotely change and enable forwarding is typically accomplished via central office codes and private lines at the set. I don’t know if any other phone system allows for this feature- but I only deal in Norstar.

Thank you all for responding, I understand normally you would forward the lines with C.O feature from phone company, but you can only do that onsite. They want to be able to forward after they left the office. With the call pilot solution mentioned, I am assuming this is outbound forward from a specfic extenssions mailbox, can i setup a phantom extension put option in auto attendant to go to that extension, then have it forward when that option is selected, the number they will be forwarding to will always be the same.

Thank you

Keep in mind that telephone set forwarding (F4) occupies 2 lines. One for the incoming call and a 2nd to call the external number. Call pilot external forwarding uses the same line. You must be sure that the line has transfer capabilites from the telco. Also telephone forwarding works on intercom calls, Call pilot forwarding does not. But as said earlier the telephone set forwarding can only be modified locally.

It sounds like you just want to be able to press a digit and get transferred. Yes you can do that with the voice mail- you don’t need to do any of the phantom stuff to make it happen.

FYI- you do not have to be onsite to use C.O. codes to forward your lines. That is why the feature is called "remote call forwarding."

Rg,

If you have a NAM it is possible to remotely record company greetings, change greetings and set business open/closed status. I'm not sure if this is possible with a CP. Haven't tried it yet.

Anyone?
