We have an ACS R3 with 2 extensions where employees have left - the owner wants calls to their extension to be forwarded to him / his voice mail - everything works fine excpet his phone now rings immediately on all incoming calls (display reads "forwarded call - 18") - the 2 extensions that are forwarded are set to delayed ring on all of the CO Lines. Any thoughts??

where those two phones set to ring on incomming calls?

Unfortunatly, it's a "bug" or "feature" depending on how you perceive it.

When you forward an extension, even though that extension is set for NO ring or DELAYED ring, the receiving extension will ring IMMEDIATLY for each line on the forwarding extension.

Don't know why, don't know the rationale behind it.

You could remove the lines from the forwarding phones through #301, then forward them to the boss's extension. Only calls transferred to those particular extensions would then forward and ring at the boss's extension.

I did not know that, I guess you can learn something new everyday.
Thanks TTT

Touch Tone - are you sure about "You could remove the lines from the forwarding phones through #301, then forward them to the boss's extension" ? - the manual states that the lines must be set to immediate or delayed ring on the extensions to be forwarded - if the lines aren't assigned to those extensions my thought is it might not meet that criteria - no equipment here at the house to test so it will have to wait until tomorrow unless someone know s for sure.

Well, I'd have to test it, but here's the theory. I don't want to forward the initial incoming calls to the boss's extension, just calls that have been already answered (by the auto attendant?) and transferred to the extensions. So without any lines assigned to the extensions, the calls would end up ringing on the intercom buttons, and the extensions being forwarded, it should follow the forward.

However, with no lines assigned to them, there is nothing to ring on the initial incoming call while waiting for the auto attendant or operator to answer the call.

I originally discovered the forwarding action when I needed to plug in my test phone and do some programming while back at the control unit. This customer had the auto attendant answering all incoming calls. I needed to use ext 11, leaving ext. 10 alone. The phones were set to no ring. I pulled ext 11 out, plugged in, did a quick copy (#399) of Ext. 11 to another port, and moved the connecting cord for 11 to that port. Now, this port was also set for no ring (copied from 11), and I forwarded 11 to this port (Feature 11-11-XX), and all of a sudden, incoming calls start ringing there before the auto attendant could answer!! I still don't know "why" they designed it that way, but it's surely a gotcha.

Hi All,
That one bit me hard a while ago. Immediate and delayed ring extensions will ring immediately on the target extension. This "feature" should be withdrawn. An extension set for no ring will not ring lines on the target extension.
I would generally advise against using the forward feature. Especially if voice mail is involved. The cover feature works better, and you still get vm coverage.
