Is there a way to call forward to an external number and then if not answer after so many ring to return to Callpilot voice mail for the orginal DN that was forwards?

No- You would need a MC3100 or some find me/follow me functionality. You cannot "pull back" a call with a regular call forward external.

Thanks!

If your external number has the capability, forward it to another DID number, set up as an ACD, night call forwarded to your voice mail. In voice mail, set up that DID number to go directly to the voice mailbox you want it to go to. Depending on the way all the phones are set up, you might have to play around to figure out which number your mailbox is seeing coming back in to make sure you point the correct number in to the voice mail box.
There are several down sides to this, most obvious is the fact that you are now burning 3 lines for each call of this type, the original inbound, the transferred outbound, then the last inbound from external phone to get to the voice mail. Another issue is that once you forward out of your building, you have no control over what the call does, so if someone else tries to use the phone, it could cause issues. Food for thought: do you think the customer will stay on line for all that time waiting to get to the voice mail?

A PCA should be able to do this. If you have PCA licenses. If not they aren't real expensive.
