Does anyone want to walk me thru setting up a phone to be forwarded to an external number? I have a customer who has a BCM50 and wants to press a button (call forward) then enter the external number (can they use a pre programed number?). I have allow redirect turned on but what do the route and destination codes do and how do I set them up?

If you have "allow redirect" checked, then simply program a button on his set to dial the number exactly how you dial it from the phone and include the route number to get a line. My office uses 9 so I would put the 9 in there. Then have them select the "forward" feature on the set followed by this button you just programmed as a speed dial.
You may want to add some restrictions to that set to avoid any calls out of the country or to a 900 number etc.
If you don't have routes setup for outside lines, and you are using line keys to dial, I suggest creating a route for 9 to use your lines or pool to dial. I am assuming you already have that.
Note: Feature *1 to program external speed dial
Note: Feature 4 call forward. If you do it this way, they press 2 buttons and done. Just program the speed dial with the route added. Simply try the number like this before forwarding so you know it works.
Hope this helps.

I am missing something. I should add I do not have a BCM so I am trying this on a CICS with the thought that a BCM50 would not be much different. Here is what I am trying so far:
Set - Allow redirect, program speed dial button for call forward.
under routes - Program route 001 to dial out "8" which gives an outside line.
Under destination codes - I create a code and link route 001 to it.
It then says "absorb length" currently it is set to all
I have also tried adding a pause before or after the "8".

Finally I set the phone to call forward enter the destination code and the number I would like to dial.

I am getting the operator (please check your number...) I can see the phone select a line out but can't get the cell phone to ring. I know I am close but missing something?

Sounds like you have it right. CICS should work the same. Do you have PRI trunking or POTS lines? Are these lines traditional copper, or some newer VOX IP service that is converted using an Adtran or Autocodes box etc?

We need to make sure the CLID is not getting the call blocked by the carriers switch. I have had issues in the past if "enterprise trunking" is not enabled on a Carrier router. If the provider uses an adtran to give you a PRI signal, they may be blocking calls that are forwarded because you don't own that number. You can work on CLID on the CICS to send no caller ID, or call the carrier and get them to enable enterprise trunking. I suspect it is being blocked. If you are using true copper CO trunks, this is not likely an issue.

Are your lines Supervised in programming?.

Thank you all for the help. I have it working now. When I program the route code I need to leave it set at "Dial out - NO number" If I enter "8" for line access or "9" for line pool I get the operator telling me to check the number (two different recordings depending on the settings).
Only issue now is, this line rings on incoming calls, shouldn't call forwarding also work for incoming calls (from a different line of course)? Or would that not activate the forwarding since you are not calling that ext. directly? Call forward only works if the phone is called from another phone in the building.
I am testing this using one analog line and one Voip line (NetTALK).

Yes, supervised lines. So I just leave the route as default? and the destination code points to that route?
I 'll try that later today.

Yes
Route 001 = Pool A or PRI-A (as examples)
8 = Dest code which is told to use Route 001

Set:
F4 8 XXX-XXX-XXXX

In the case if you forward to the same number all the time, i.e. reception forwards to answering service every night or the sales rep forwards to their mobile everytime then that is when you can enter dial out digits:

Route 001 = Pool A or PRI-A (as examples), dial XXX-XXX-XXXX
8 = Dest code which is told to use Route 001

Set:
F4 8
